coolant disappearing?
hey, i have a 94 t/a, has a fresh motor with 5k on it, and runs good. mild cam,all the boltons, EWP, etc..
I have to add about 1/2 a 20oz bottle of water every few days to the radiator neck. The car doesnt miss, smoke, etc...no coolant in the oil, and no oil in the coolant. i cant figure out with the problem is! no leaks anywhere that i can see, and doesnt seem to be burning any.
*one thing, my car doesnt have the airdam on the front end, so the temps run a little higher than they should at cruising speed/highway (about 195/200deg). I am putting it on this week.
Any ideas or anyone had a similar problem?

Thats quite a bit to be losing and not having it hit the ground....
Things have a funny way of dripping onto hot headers and burning off, havent noticed any sweet/odd smells lately have you?

Well, for starters...... The airdam is usually a good idea, but if this was causing it you would notice boiling. If you still have it throw it on there, it helps.
Sadly, small holes in head gaskets cause the "magic disappearing coolant trick" alot. Especially if your driveway isnt bathing in it by now. And the hole could be so small you dont have any other problems quite yet (no overheating/boiling......and no smell) but enough to short change you on coolant everytime you fill/drive it.
But before you assume the worst, as stated above check that overflow tank and keep paying attention to the exhaust color/smell......Cus that coolant has to be going somewhere.

how old is the water pump? it could be leaking out of the weep hole and burning off on the motor while driving. this happened to me and i finally found it was the pump and replaced it no problems since

I literally have the same prob, been puzzled myself. Just recently installed an ewp and new radiator after I found a crack in it. Then the light started coming on and the "leaK" with it nowhere to be seen.

Those coolant level sensor tend to go bad after a while and it will cause a false singal showing u that you are low on coolant.. Unplugg it if you want, but it could also be leaking from there. Im about to unplug mine cause my light comes on and off like 2 times a week and annoys me.

thanks for all the replies..drove the car yesterday, before i started it i checked the level in the rad and it was about an inch low..only took a little to fill it. the overflow tank was also low, but im pretty sure its been low for a while b/c i never added any to it. i'm so sick of lt1's, i think im going to sell mine to get an ls1...its always some stupid little problem with every lt1 ive had.
