My uncle worked at Mercruiser and helped build the motors. One of the ones that Rick Kirk has in his office is a complete motor that everyone on the build team signed. Also Rick Kirk had special plates made that covered the front of the intake that said MerCruiser on it.

Power and potential wise a LS3 is a better idea at a tiny fraction the cost initial and to mod. I am just practical rather than blindly drooling over something without taking the time to understand.
They genuinely were something awesome 20 years ago but technology marches forward and today the ONLY thing going for it is the rarity.

Gotta disagree in an agreeable way with Dwayne on this one. The WOW! factor when you pop the hood at the drive-in can be worth the investment, if you roll that way.
The $12K ebay deal almost seems a bargain, imho, but not if performance is your primary goal (like he said).

Im pretty certain that if the cost vs power range was the issue then we'd all be using the same issue, if i had the money i'd gladly buy an LT5 crate over and LS7 crate, and same for the LS3 (Aside from fitment issues) NA LT5's are just making stupid power, but again its expensive as hell. I just would rather buy a C4 ZR1 and build it, definitely one of my dream cars, and ******* a motor because its expensive and rare is a very poor excuse to do so
