Tommorrow's the day.... nerves are KICKIN IN big time
Okay so they show up at 6:30 and we're ready to go. I get the car fired, put heat in the motor, pull it up to the line cause I have to run 3 passes NOT in the 9's for license passes... so okay three motor passes then we'll spray it... Fine.... First motor pass, good burnout, get on the brake launch and UGGGGH car just dead hooks and bogs and almost pulls the motor down to like 2000 RPM from 4K!!!!! It finally ramps up and goes but the whole pass doesn't feel right for some reason.... I finish the pass and get my slip 11.8@119. I'm like WTF..... Where did close to 8mph go???? The weather ain't that bad (it's like 85 degrees out)..... back in the pits we discover a wire (#8) had completely popped off the spark plug... So I ran 11.8 on 7 cylinders.. nice.... Okay motor pass number two, good burnout, motor sounds better. Get off the brake UGGGGGH motor stumbles again dragging it down when i let off the brake. Car goes 11.0@126.8. The MPH was back indicating that we were doing sumthing and we fixed that problem but the stumble off the line was entirely another. We make another motor pass that resulted in like 10.98@126 but it was identical to the first with the car damn near stalling off the line when we release the brake. Looking at the datalogs my tuner sees that when the brake is released the car goes DEAD lean for a split second and then comes back to life and dumps fuel in and goes... Nothing else weird happens the whole pass.... We check over the whole car taking about an hour and find a loose connection to the battery that goes to the fuel pump relay. It pulls right out of the ring connector. We re-crimp it and go to the lanes hoping for the best.
Then some assclown oils the track down and it takes 45 minutes to clean while we sit in the lanes. It's now 9:30 and racing ends at 10PM. I'm furious but hoping this solves it. I pull in the box, let er rip and it sounds good. I stage, put it on the brake and dump it and BAM wheels up pulling like a raped ape..... Car goes 10.69@127.1... So we're stoked we solved the problem but wasted a TON of time trying to fix it and we probably only have ONE chance at making a bottle pass..... NO time to heat the bottle, nor any time to get our tires down to where my tuner wanted them... So I'm in the lanes with 17psi in the tires, 850psi of bottle pressure, and nervous as **** and the time crunch is NOT helping my nerves. I pull into the water at 9:57, almost forget to purge (thank god for my crew chief), do a massive burnout, and pull forward.....
I get on the brake and dump it and the car proceeds to ASSRAPE the radials for at least 150 feet downtrack. I get out of it for fear of putting it into the wall when it drifted the *** right and then got back in it and this time it hooked and pulled CRAZY hard. I knew I had wasted the pass ET wise but wanted to see what it would do on the top end..... It ended up running 10.92@139.7 mph with a hilarious 2.0 60 FOOT!!!!!! HAHAHAHAAHAH....
So we didn't get to do what we wanted, some of it our fault, most of it others faults thanks to track oildowns and only got one nitrous pass with no time to test/tune other suspension/timing setups to quell the shock on the tires..... My tuner did tell me I need double adjustable shocks and I need to be running less than 17psi in the radials for the nitrous.... So I guess that's why they call it Test and Tune... Unfortunately we didn't get to test or tune on the spray due to the time crunch....
However I am pretty excited about the just shy of 140mph trap speeds on the smallest jets that I have (150hp).... With a better launch and not having wasted 150-200 feet of track I think it could have gone 140-141. My shift points were also all over the place that pass..... no worries guys. I'm going to hit Infineon in a few weeks with my new chassis cert and make JUST nitrous passes since all that's left to do for my license passes is passes IN the 9's....
Sorry to hyjack but
I had the same bogging as you lastnite. And I was messing with the batt. B4 I went to the track. Would this be something that can happen on a stock car? Car would hook and fall on its face. Resulting in 2.2 and 2.3xx 60s

That thing is going to screw when you put those other plates in... Nevermind what its going to do when you actually hook solid on the plate your using NOW.
We were rushed from the pits with 6 minutes left in the night to race (if you're not in the lanes you're done).. we had zero time to adjust shock settings or tire pressure settings.... My tuner even pulled an additional 9 degrees of timing for the first two seconds of the run and progressively added it back in and it still didn't work..... It ANNIHALATED the tires with 15 degrees of total timing!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure we could get the car to hook with lowering the tire pressure, firming up the QA1's to 8 or even 9 but ultimately I think it's a bandaid to getting the right parts.... Honestly this car now is in dire need of double adjustable AFCO's or similar.... The single adj just aren't going to cut it at these power levels. I did the numbers for the car and with me in it it's 3400 lbs and the calculator says it's making 720hp...... So for the first pass on spray I wouldn't call it a complete loss... It's making insane amounts of power, it didn't break and drove back down the return road good to go, we got a good datalog on the pass...
I think the only thing I would do different if I could do it again is I would have footbraked the car for the first pass. I guarantee it would have hooked and probably went 9.60ish.... I'm working on pics and video of the night. I don't know if anyone has the nitrous pass cause my buddies camera took a ****... but i'm looking around for the video...
WHat gear, tire and shift point are you using?
My 4.11, 28 tall tire and 7100 rpm limitation aint gonna make it on a 175 shot...I dont think anyway.
David
I'm running a 3.89 gear, a 325/50/15 MT DR (which I believe is 28" OD), and I shift at about 7600..... Unfortunately on that nitrous pass my plan kinda went to crap shifting cause of the spin. I spun BADLY, shifted into second and it continued spinning so I got off of it and then back on it. I would have to check the log but I think my shift points were around 7400-7600...
Yeah your gears might be a bit steep for a 175 hit...... I gotta hook the one fiddy before I even THINK about my 175 jets

Found some video. it's off of a camera phone and converted so I can't vouch on the quality but you'll get the point... You can still see the smoke off the back tires when I pass the camera man a good 150 feet out... The end of the video has some good commentary from my buddy filming and a group of EVO guys in the stands that are like "Are you kidding me?!?!?!?! One hundred th....." and then it cuts out...

Enjoy!!!!
