Default Rev Limiter for a CC503

I'm getting ready to order my tune for my new CC503. I have a few questions.

1. Where does this cam make most of it's power? I've heard people say as high as 6200RPM shifts.

2. What should I have them set the rev limiter to?

set the limiter based on the driveline. for example...

What springs?
What kind of roller rockers, stock, SA, NSA??

I have used mail order tunes, id get it so you can drive it but TAKE IT TO A TUNER! Often mail order tunes are made to be VERY safe, very rich and not a ton of timing.

If you have the proper valve train, 6200 shouldnt be out of the question.

isnt stock 6200 RPM?

I would say 6300 or 6400 is fine if you have the right stuff. This is your limiter, not your shift point.

if 93s limit that much earlier that is news to me. 5700 is typically just considered the redline. Ive seen my digital tach reading 6K plus with my new cam and my tune is still stock.

I had this cam on my old engine. The engine now resides in my buddy's Impy. This is a 388 stroker, with very nicely ported LT1 heads. It's gone 12.00's in a full weight Impala.

He races it in D, and the shiftpoints are set at 6300. The rev limiter is set at 6500, I think.

I really like this cam, especially in a stroker. YMMV

OK, Not sure what you are saying, but yes the stock redline is 5750, is it making power past this? NO, the cam peters out at app 5500 rpm on a Stock LT1..

CC503 in a stock heads will peak around 5800RPM/shift at 6000 RPM
CC503 in ported heads will peak around 6100 RPM/shift at 6300 RPM
This is an educated guess. All motors are different.

Just tell your tuner what you currently have and he will set you up with the correct shift points/rev limiter. If your going with madz28 or PCM4less they have LOTS of experience with the 305/503 and other off the shelf cams. Call em' up and they will tell you exactly what you need to know.

I ran the cc503 myself on stock untouched heads. Car made max power somewhere I think around 5900-6000ish. 6300-6400 shifts ended up being the best for me. I would say 6300 would be a good spot to start and if you feel going atad higher would help then try 6400 but any lower will hinder performance a tad.

FYI: When I shifted the cc503 at 6000 at one point in time I ran 4 tenths slower then when I raised it to where it should have originally been.
