Default 39x LTx - Year casting to use?

Is there a year LTx block thats best for that kind of bore? Do they all have the same tolerances? Starting from scratch on the block so any advice here would be great.

What leads you to believe that there is more than one LT1 block casting??

I wasnt sure, with some SBC blocks have more nickel than others, wasnt sure if there might some diff with the various year LTx blocks. So it sounds like they are all the same then...

Thanks!!

Does it matter if I use a block that has a .030 over bore on it already...or is it better practice to start with a stock block?

All the blocks are the same, though some came setup with 4-bolt mains. IMO if making enough power to warrant 4-bolt mains you need aftermarket caps anyway so I would not pay any extra for a 4-bolt block as it will have to be machined for the new caps anyway even if you do the straight ones like the OEM.

I saw a block for sale that had the splayed caps already but was .030 over..would just need to have it honed a little more and might save me a little. My machinist wants $400 to install 4-bolt splayed main caps alone! Then all the other stuff that goes along with preping a block, maybe I can save a buck that way.

If the .030 overbore was QUALITY work you could. If you are willing to take a little gamble this may work out for you.
