ICM / coil assembly cooling solution?

ICM / coil assembly cooling solution? just wondering if any one came up with a better location and or cooling solution for the ICM / coil assembly ? recently replaced both the ICM fried. the last hot coil I ran only lasted a few seasons MSD appears to have a new composite design for the blaster so I bit, the old jankey version got downgraded to the budget street fire line. I was considering relocation, bigger heat sink , and a pc muffin fan. would appriciate pics and info thanks
Sorry don't mean to deviate from you post but I noticed your build is similar to mine and I am running E85 as well. One tune for E85 and one for 93 octane. How is yours set up for flex fuel?

the program or adj fuel pessure regulator ramp it up 5-7 psi was gona put a old stile choke cable on it so i could do it from the cabin. also contimplating a relay and resistor combo on the IAT to lie to the PCM telling it that its colder out to get a few more degrees of timing.
Do the ICM/Coil cooling mod. Mount the assembly on some extended bolts (your going to have to find them yourself) so that the coil/ICM do not heat sink from the head itself (as they do when mounted directly to it in the stock location). Ideally they will be offset from the head about 2-3".

You could honestly do it any way you want, even if you wanted to extend some wires and totally relocate the coil to maybe the fan shroud or anywhere else you might have space that would work too. I personally wanted to relocate it totally, but dident want to fiddle with old stock wiring so I kept it there. I just used some longer bolts to keep the whole assembly off of the head.

i was thinking about seeing of the harness would allow me to mount the ICM on the firewall by taking the wires out of the wrapped harness and putting the coil towards the rear too.

Verdad Gallardo Yeah, actually thats a great idea. Just dig into the harness and take those few wires that go to the Coil/ICM and mount to the firewall.
Good damn idea, only thing your going to have to work around is getting that coil wire to the optispark...... Dont want to make that coil wire too long now.

Don't know about results, The_Merv stuck two studs on there, so there is a inch gap between the head and the icm, and that way you don't have washers falling all over the place when you remove that piece, I always lost one or two.

well it is now mounted to my bay brace and seems to operate cooler,the Wells from the zone was junk did not work at all, the borg warner from advance did not live long bout 175 miles put ice on it car runs fine. take it back it failed the bench test headers /high compession should not burn it out that fast. must have been defective ill try one more before I buy an AC Delco. . what brands did every one else have luck with?

Small telescopic(sp) magnet works great for holding washers in place. I think a 1/2 inch spacers and longer bolts would be fine and not look ghetto. Getting it off the head is a great idea but I'm too lazy to attempt it.
I would only buy AC Delco when it comes to electronic parts. Typically they are only a few dollars cheaper at the chain stores. I base this on the fact that a ICM was only $5 cheaper for the off brand than the AC Delco from the dealership last time I replaced one.
Also I had bought a knock sensor from NAPA. Guess what? I installed it and it was bad, resistance was way off. If you have to buy sensors buy OEM. The $5 you save won't be worth the aggravation.
