I had a gearhead buddy claim a 383 stroker with 5.7 rods will only last a few seasons of street use due to increased rod bearing wear. most stokers I see run at least 10/40 if not 20/50 oil. I based my build off a golen racing 383 they recomend 20/50 conventional. I run Rotella T sythetic 5/40. but boke it in on 20/50. any one have early wear on a 383?

 

Comes down to quality of build, and most builds are not quality.

I have 13 years, almost 52,000 street/strip miles and drawers full of time slips....no problems or issues...The short block hasnt been touched since it was built in 1995...The heads were re-ported once in 2005 when I wanted a bit more out of it and switched to a slightly bigger baby cam...Its all in the use of quality, durable parts and extreme attention to build detail...

Yeah, any engine built from a reputable/decent shop should be tough and have some longevity to it. But you cant do anything without a quality build...

 

9+ years on my 383 now with no issues other than some oil spots on the pavement. As said before it all comes down to the builder and how good it's put together.

i love how LT1 T/A's look with those type of rims and especially lowered just slightly. your car is my dream car except i'd do another color than red ( i already get pulled over way too much haha! )

A perfect example of a motor built right the first time.

 

GM High Tech had a 396 in Thunder Chicken, that thing also lasted a good bit, that was with road racing, drag racing and daily driving abuse.

 

they freshened it up after 50K miles and it really didn't need it. They should last a good long while.
