I would recomend the MEL-10554. i just put it in my new engine and oil pressure is great, and i dont have to worry about the pump sucking the pan dry because its not a hv pump. Runs 70 cold idle lower after heated up. I would recommend getting the pickup tube welded. No modifications needed using the stock pan.

I don't think a hv will suck the pan dry unless you have a problem with oil drianing back into the pan because that would mean we are driving around with almost 75% oil in the top of are motor because the hv are 25% more volume.
plus I have the Canton oil pan and it holds 7Qts
is that pump you have standard P&V ?
thats pretty high.

I've used the 10552 in two LT1s now (one of them is the motor in my sig) with stock pans.
No complaints here, they are for sure alot stouter pump than the factory or Melling standard replacement pumps like the M55.
The 10552 only has 10% additional volume over stock, and even with my 7K shift points I've never experienced any pressure drop at high rpms. I'd say it's not even coming close to sucking the pan dry.
I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another if I ever build anthother LT1 or SBC.
