lt1 will fit standard sbc dart heads. what kind of stock intake you talking about? stock lt1? standard and vortec style intakes bolt completely different, plus the stock lt1 intake will prolly be pretty restrictive with that 406 and the dart heads if you could make it work. im not saying it cant be done...but monetarily wise...it woudnt be worth it. put on a single plane and a good holley.

Give Chad Golen a call and see what he says (123-885-3830). Also, Chad is a great guy to talk with, he'll get you lined-out.

I'm just talking out loud here, but LT intakes are dry so you need to think about that. Drilling the SBC heads for LT bolt pattern shouldn't be difficult for a machine shop. Why are you wanting to put an LT manifold on a SBC anyway? You won't be able to run a carb and to run fuel injection on your 94 F-body the computer will need a cam and crank sensor that the opti normally provided. With a SBC you won't have provisions for the opti.

Why not just get a nice single plane and stick with the carb? It would be a lot less trouble for you and probably make more power. Not to mention easier to tune.

I already have the lt1 intake. The crank sensor didn't come out till 96 and is it possible to run a cam sensor if not I guess the 406 will go up for sale I appreciate all the info

The crank sensor on the OBD2 engines is only for misfire detection, has nothing to do with timing. My understanding is to run multi port fuel injection you need both crank and cam sensors and I believe that the opti provides both these signals to the computer as High and Low res pulse.

Just buy a single plane and get injector bungs put in it. I'm pretty sure edelbrock already sells some set up for EFI. Sell your LT1 intake and it will cost you about the same as having the LT1 intake converted. Then you can run a normal distributor instead of the opti.

A normal distributor still won't provide the computer the correct opti signals to run MPFI, you will still need a 2X cam signal on your cam gear and timing cover.

I didn't mention it, but you can still run the opti for optical cam sensory. Plenty of people have done it before. You could also go use a crank trigger.

Only way to run a 406 in a 94 F-body is to go carb'd and toss on a distributor or get an aftermarket computer so he doesn't have to use the opti. He wants to use the LT1 intake, meaning he wants to run fuel injection and use the LT1 computer. To do that he needs to figure out a way to replicate the cam and crank signals and get the intake bolt pattern converted.

I'm running a MSD distributor converted for a cam signal and a crank trigger, but this is on a BBC, not a SBC. Point is it can be done, but not cheaply. Cheaply would be to toss on a carb and dist. and be done with it since he already has the whole engine ready to go.
