Mac Mids problem
i would check the motor mounts first. i had a terrible problem with clearance between my steering shaft and my pacesetters. i ground the column down, replaced the mounts, and had to shim the motor mount off of the k-member almost 1/4". Also check your transmission mount, its probably bad too.
spohn makes a manual steering rack too that moves the column connection on the rack 1 inch outward. that would help too.

And since Fergy won't explain himself (maybe not explaining implies he actually didn't know?), it's hard to tell what he was meaning. Oh well! 
i couldn't really understand the thread much either i just new 1/4" impacts existed.
