I hear that if a vehicle comes from the factory without provisions for a front license plate then the state can't force you to put one on. I'm pretty sure they came with, so no loop hole there. but does anyone else know any of the specifics of the law? I've tried searching the net but have yet to come up with anything

Honestly there was only one cop around me that would give me **** for not having the front plate. I keep it in the window, and ever since that cop left I havent had any problems. Cops around me dont seem to have a problem with the exhaust either. And I dont really try to keep it quiet.

He got me twice, but it never changed anything

The noise violation here is about the same way. I have one chambers on my car with a cam pretty loud! Some cops will give you a thumbs up others will pull you over I guess it all depends on the mood the cop is in!

Maybe true, but since something like 60-70% of states do require one, the auto manufacturers are require to provide SOME type of mounting provision...even if it's some "tacked on" bracket destroying the look of a smooth, aerodynamic front bumper.

When I bought both my '85 Firebird, and my '96 Camaro, the dealers gave me a ration of crap, because in order to pass state inspection, which they are required to do, even on a brand new car, it must have a front plate. I told them both, "You deface MY car with that bracket, when I specifically told you NOT to put it on, and the deal is off".....The brackets were in the trunk, in case I ever needed them.

i am defnintely glad we dont have front plates down here in florida. i dont really see the point in them being required in some states. if a cop pulls you over, he is behind you isnt he??? lol.

some of the cops are just being jerks and just looking for something to pull you over for. which i think is BS

in FL they banned the plate covers that refract light and i had a buddy get pulled over for that... i think they banned them because of the red light cameras though.

You can't bolt it to the air damn. I found out that the bottom of the plate has to be atleast 5 inches off the ground, in IL atleast. It's also illegal to put it in the windshield. I had mine ziptied to my billet grille for a little bit. But, I got tired of my car looking retarded and took it off. So far no cops are hassling me about it luckily.
