HEEEELP!!!!! no 5th or 6th gear
Ok i have an 02 camaro SS with the 6spd i just put it back in from getting new syncro kit installed and a new LS7 clutch kit. when the car is turned off i have all my gears (1,2,3,4,5,6/R). BUUT when i took the car out for a test drive my speedometer does not work and when i go to hit 5th it grinds like its wanting to go into Reverse and when i go to hit 6th it wont go into gear at all. i didnt know if this might have sumthing to do with the speed sensor or what i cant finger it out!!!
......Could this have anything to do with the new LS7 clutch i just installed i didnt shim it or put a new slave in...
PLEASE HELP THANX

I had the same problem when I put my T56 back together. I'm sure it was because the fork for the 5/6 shift rail fell under the interlock plate (looking at it with the tranny sitting vertical) when I was checking the operation WITHOUT the rear extension housing on. The extension housing keeps the main shift rail and 5/6 shift rail in place. If you twist or pull on that 5/6 shift rail without the extension housing on, the fork can and likely will fall out of place from the interlock. You need to have that tranny pulled immediately and torn down again. DO NOT DRIVE IT IN 5TH OR 6TH!!! If it is the same problem I had, 1st through 4th are fine.

Yep, you will. You'll probably even be able to get it into reverse - for a while anyway. The reverse synchro is probably just barely biting the reverse gear. Check out my thread "Help-broke something in T56." I even posted pictures. If you pull the extension housing off, you'll probably see the reverse synchro sleeve pushed way toward the rear of the tranny, even though the shifter is in neutral!
That noise you hear is the reverse gear getting crammed into the rear extension housing. Some think I left a snap ring off, but I didn't find any evidence of that. Either way, even if I'm 180 degrees off, you'll still have to pull the tranny apart. This was my first T56 rebuild after all, but I've built lots of other manual and auto's for 15 years and have never had one fail before. This was my first failure and it was on my car!

You can pull the extension housing off without removing the tranny from the car if you'd like. That's where 5th, 6th, and reverse are.

Take it right back to the place that did the rebuild, something was not put back together correctly, and it sounds like things are already gone too far... The speedo issue may just be a connector left off (lucky) or the sensor could be covered with metal flakes from the chewed up internal parts (unlucky)...
