SPEC pressure plate failure??? what broke off my clutch? i had what sounded like a chunk of metal flying around in my bell housing. i dropped the trans and found a chunk of metal. its about 1.75" on one side and 1.25" on the opposite side (kinda like a trapazoid shape). its got a slight curve to it, and is only about 1/16th of an inch thick. on the side thats 1.25" long there looks to be a spot where it was attached to, and broken away from, the PP. i havent pulled the PP yet to see if i can tell where it came from. i'm sure my PP is now out of balance, and will need to be replaced. anyone ever here of something like this?

It is called the diaphram spring & is meant to be in one piece.
It is not only unbalanced it will not hold correctly either.
It will total fail if left in , so it's lookin like clutch time.
What stage was it??

Re: SPEC pressure plate failure??? what broke off my clutch? Could be part of your clutch disc. When I pulled my SPEC out, one of the disc springs had come out and was lodged in the side of the pressure plate.

as for it not holding, i has felt a little soft upon engagement the last couple of days. think it should fall under a warranty claim? its a S3.
where do i look on the PP to see if its missing?

Are you using an aluminum flywheel? It sounds to me like that is a piece of the friction surface (the steel ring that is riveted to the aluminum flywheel for the clutch to work against). If that is the case, what flywheel did you use? (we are about to put a spec stage 2 and a Fidanza in a friends lt1 on Saturday).

Re: SPEC pressure plate failure??? what broke off my clutch? o.k. - got the PP out. the piece that came off looks like the tail of a whale cut of @ the narrowest piont. it came from just inside the iron disc and has alot of other ones still there. it shouldnt affect the function of the clutch, but the ballance is off. anyone have the contact info for SPEC?

Re: SPEC pressure plate failure??? what broke off my clutch? Are you describing part of the "marcel". The plate that the clutch pads sit on that is riveted to the hub (it is made of "thin steel" and tapers to the hub)? I'd be worried if that was coming apart....

Re: SPEC pressure plate failure??? what broke off my clutch? its not the CLUTCH DISC. i found where it was missing from. there is some stamped plate on the inside of the PP (part of the mechanicals). it extends and follows the inside radius if the PP friction surface. there are 14 of these "whale tail shaped" parts. one broke off.

i found where it was missing from. there is some stamped plate on the inside of the PP (part of the mechanicals).
It is the piece that pushes the hat of the pressure plate down on the disc.
It is a shallow cone shape of spring steel.
It is meant to be one piece. This failure does happen on alot of diff. applications.

Re: SPEC pressure plate failure??? what broke off my clutch? well they emailed me back and said they could repair the old PP (cant replace it cause they dont make that style anymore) or i could buy the latest offering @ a dicount. i'm happy w/ that offer. the $$ of the new one will be the desiding factor as to what i do.
