Default spec clutch question

okay so I have a spec stage three in my car and its starting to slip with about 4k mi. on it? my car is turboed and made just over 500 @ the wheels and it started slipping after a night at the track... but it doesnt slip in 1st or 2nd or at higher rpm when going through the gears, but if i'm in third fourth or fifth cruising on the highway at fairly low rpm (2500-3000) and get on it once the turbo spools up it slips and while slipping i notice a vigorous vibration in the console.... and sometimes it wont do it and sometimes it is very bad... anyone ever had this problem with a spec? anyone know what the hell the vibration would be? any input much appreiciated...

I have heard that a lot of people are having problems with spec clutches. Mine so far has been OK. IS teh vibration all the time? If so maybe the flywheel needs to be balanced? What flywheel did you get? I hope not the Spec ones.

Without seeing the parts it is hard to know the specific cause. But when slippage occurs it will generally happen in higher gears under low RPM which is when higher load occurs. That being said, there are only a few things that will cause slippage. The most obvious would be wear...if you pull the clutch kit measure the disc thickness (with a micrometer) and this will evidence the amount of wear on the unit. Contamination can also lead to slippage. This would generally originate froma rear-main-seal leak, a hydraulic leak or an over-greased input-shaft. This too should be pretty obvious when you remove the parts.

I have seen Stage 3 kits wear out in 100K Miles, I have seen them 5K miles. One of the biggest factors in any clutches life is how it is driven. Anytime a pucked disc is used most driver will have a tendency to slip it more than they would a full face disc in hopes of smoothing out the engagement. To this end, they slip it too much, and the clutch wears faster.

Just let me know when and where the unit was purchased and send me some pics of the parts and I will be happy to assist you as best possible. Thanks!

no i just had my factory flwheel resurfaced, and the vibration isn't all the time but when it does happen it almost feels like wheelhop... but not quite as vigorous. and i've noticed it more i think now that i have street tires on instead of d/r's....

ok well thanks for the help and I will let you know when i get around to pulling the parts. do you think 510 wheel HP and 585 wheel FTLB.s is too much for this clutch?

Well, the stage 3 is rated to handle 680lb.-ft at the crank. Factoring a 15% loss would put the wheel rating at 578lb.-ft. Technically you could be over-powering it. I would suggest a stage 3+ over the 3 for this rating and application. That being said, if you have been over powering it I will be happy to give you a break on a stage 3+. Just send me shots of it and I will let you know if anything else is going on and we can go from there. Thanks!
