Default LSx to Getrag 265?

The Getrag 265 is a very stout 5 speed transmission (much stronger than the 240 or even the later 260) which is readily available and cheap.

As a bonus (unlike the 240) it has a removable bellousing.

(The 265 was used in a variety of cars including the BMW E30 M3, 633, 535, Jag XJS, Bitter, etc, are rated for enormous amounts of torque, and are considered nearly indestructable..)

Question: Does anyone make the necessary adapter parts to mate an LSx to it? Would seem a natural pairing.

Thanks!
Bill

Since the T56 and the Getrag 265 both use separate bellhousings, mating the two is just a matter of an adapter plate. Issues that come to mind are pilot bearing engagement, input shaft diamater and length, throw out bearing attachment on the Getrag, slip yoke availability, and gear ratios.

It might sound like a neat idea, but at the end of the way you will have more into this science project than a well built T56. What problem are you trying to solve by doing this swap?

Trying to simplify a potential Bitter SC LSx swap... plus a 265 is 1/3 the price of a T56... and IMO much nicer shifting.

Thanks!

Well good luck. I am not sure how much "simpler" it will be.

These guys make a kit, we used the sbc one to mate the box to an LS1 for a Cobra replica. Speak to John.

Yeah, but by the time you end up buying adapter plates, input shaft machining, running around, etc....how much cheaper do you REALLY think it is gonna be?

I completely agree... custom machine work, etc would not simplify anything. On the other hand, seeing that the 265 has a removable bellhousing, I thought someone might make a turnkey kit (which it sounds like they might... thanks yamota!).

Thanks!
