Default Question on F-body factory shifter orientation for T-56

Every shifter I have seen for the F-body T-56 transmission has a shifter as in the photo below. It has the flat on the shifter arm mount in line with the axis of the transmission. Mine is a factory shifter, but I have pictured a Hurst below which is similar.

I picked up a t-56 for the F-body as a box of parts. It has the factory shifter similar to above, BUT the flat for the shifter arm mount is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from the photo above.

Is there some way that when the shifter is removed from the transmission that the shaft for the shifter arm can be rotated? I tried gently turning it, and it seemed solid, so I stopped.

Any suggestions?

You are correct, I have changed the photo as to reference the orientation of the flat on the shifter.

Do you know how the flat can be reoriented on the factory shifter so it is same as the Hurst unit above?

Can you take/post a picture of the shifter you're asking about? It could be from a different type of vehicle, or it could just be the rivets have loosened and the mechanisim has rotated.

The factory Fcar shifter has the stub lever in the same orientation as the Hurst( actually a factory -offered Hurst) in your picture. If yo have a shifter with the lever90 degrees off, it is not an Fcar shifter.
