4-5th goes into REVERSE ALOT! HELP

Default 4-5th goes into REVERSE ALOT! HELP

hey shifting from 4th-5th a lot of times the shifter goes into reverse. what could this be? Do i need anything re-built etc? car only has 17,500 miles and tranny is stock t-56. Car seems to buck a lot too going from 3rd-4th.. someone tell me what l need to do please. thanks

1st thing you need to do is check/replace your reverse lock out solenoid. im not sure about the bucking..

Mine did that.

Unbolt the the lock out solenoid from the tailshaft.
Turn on the ignition
Watch the solenoid. (It should pull itself in)
Jack the rear end up and put it in drive.
Once your wheels start to move the solenoid should pop back out.

Mine would stick so it only happened occasionally. I took it off the car and cleaned it down with some carb cleaner so the the spring would return itself.
