Default small pieace

when i was removing my tranny (99camaro v8) when i pulled it out from the bell housing a small pieace dropped it was like maybe half inch long and it was metal look like a small tube like pieace .any idea guys

Could it have been a dowel?

im not sure what it is ...what is the purpose of a dowl ?

dowels align the bell to the engine & the bell to the front adapter. It could also be whats left of a pilot bearing. With a flash light look at the center of the crank. Thats where the pilot bearing lives. If that had been replaced with a bushing , it would be a tube-like piece made of bronze.
