Default When to change tranny fluid?

I had a tranny rebuilt by sixspeedsinc last summer, then put 1000 miles on it breaking in the new clutch. By then it was November and I put the car away for the winter. On a tranny rebuild, should I replace the tranny fluid here in the spring before driving?

Did you replace the fluid in the trans at the 500mi breakin for the transmission? What fluid are you running? I recommend a 500mi breakin on regular DexIII, then a drain and fresh fill with your fluid of choice.. I use Mobil1 ATF, but everyone has their own preference.

No I did not at 500. I'm using regular DexIII. If I tried anything different it would probably be the Honda ATF.

I've heard that synthetic tranny fluid can cause leaks on the t56's and to use just a normal atf dextron III fluid.

Put some Pennzoil Synchromesh in it, and you will be fine. In essence you should not have to change the fluid, any debris or shavings would be caught by the 2 half dollar sized magnets.

Dex or what ever ATF you find works well. Personally my 45k mile T-56 loves the slightly thicker Synchromesh, it is the same the GM sells at the Stealership and can be had at any local parts store.

Break in fluid is not required on manual transmissions but it won't hurt it either . I usually tell customers to check it on every oil change and service it every 50K miles . At the time of servicing the unit with new fluid , bleed the hydraulics as well .
