Default wont go into second sometimes

When Im driving and coming out of first sometimes I cant go into second, it doesnt grind or anything, but if I let off the clutch pedal then push it in again itll go in fine. Any idea what could be causing this, Ive searched but didnt find anything.

Any issues with the other gears or just going into second? If it's all the gears, I'd say you have a hydraulic/clutch problem; if it's just second, I'd say you have an internal transmission problem. I just rebuilt my trans a couple weeks ago because I lost second. Wouldn't go in, at least easily. Pulled it apart and it was a broken second gear blocker ring.

i have the same exact problem

i will sit there and try putting it in 2nd like 4 times then just give up, let the clutch out, then it will go right in

sometimes when i do that and when i let the clutch out, i can hear a knocking noise that sounds like it is coming from the rear end.. pretty awkward

I dont know what kind of fluid is in it. I also have to hold it in reverse or itll pop out, I think the reverse syncros are shot but all other gear are fine besides 2nd. I bought the car several months ago and just plated it. Im going to drain it and put in mobil1 atf and put new clutch fluid in. Is the clutch adjustable in stock form? Are there any tests I can do on the hydraulic system to see if its working properly?

Would that make a difference mechanically with being able to engage 2nd? The skip shift light has never come on while Im driving if that tells you anything.

Im planning on buying this kit..http://www.thegearbox.org/catalog/it...17/3503984.htm and I have a family friend who has rebuilt alot of transmissions (auto and man.) including my 700r4 in my 87. The car is not going to be modified in the future besides headers( possibly)... can anyone tell me if this kit will be all I need unless some gears need to be replaced due to failure? thanks

If under 100k miles, you don't need bearings. Also, get the billet keys. They break.. OFTEN. He actually told me he gets more in from being broken in reverse then anything else. very good company to buy from...... I purchase from him with every rebuild I do

my car does this occasionally. sat. at the track it did it. i drove an hour to get some times and the first run it took about a second before it let it into 2nd gear. no problem getting into 3rd or 4th. but i also dont have 5th because i believe i bent the shift fork. on the way to the track i grabbed 2nd with no problem. gonna have to tear it apart.

the skip shift light is on the lower right corner of the cluster... I couldnt see it coming on cause my steering wheel. I went to radioshack, bought a $1 resistor and disabled the skip shift. Doesnt happen anymore.
