Car keeps on slipping out of third gear, or not engaging..

Mine just starting doing this on the way to work today. It started with 3rd gear right off the freeway, 5 lights later, 1st gear is shot. Add insult to injury, looks like reverse is gone too, WTH!!!
I'm at work, which is roughly 15 miles from home, and 12 miles from the transmission shop. I have no idea what happened, but it's bad. Grinds 1st, 3rd, reverse, and pops out of each gear. I have 2nd, and 4th, and possibly 6th, but don't want to test that idea..
How much should I expect the damage (to the wallet/ bank account) to be with upgrade/rebuilt tranny...????
P.S, this is in San Jose, Ca
