Default T56 problem

Ok, so my car started doing this thing where it grinds going into 4th. I wasn't driving it hard or anything & it doesn't do it in any other gear. It does make a slight chattering noise at @ 2200 rpm in every other gear though. You either have to force it in or rev match to get it into 4th, so I rev match & ease it in. The harder you drive it, the more it grinds. I wasn't ******* it at all so this really baffles me- any ideas?

I am taking it to a T56 guru in tomorrow to get it checked out.

Just guessing but here goes ... lol ...
Bad pilot bearing or a small leak in the main seal.


Let us know how it turns out.

forgive my ignorance, but the pilot bearing is an internal problem right?

assume you are right- what is your best estimate of the cost to repair?

The pilot is pressed into the back of the crank, it's not in the transmission.
If that's the problem, the transmission will need to be dropped.

The input shaft is connected to 4th gear so that's why I'm guessing that area. I could be wrong... It could be an internal transmission problem.

To drop the transmission and reinstall, I would guess $350.00 to $500.00 labor. I've always done my own.

If its stock, do a search for aluminum 3/4 fork. The steel /iron fork is the cure.
