Sometimes at about 55 mph my car won't shift from 6-5.

Probably a related problem.

My car does the same thing. Every once in a while it will downshift into 5th, but i can always go from 4th to 5th. I havent got any other problems with the tranny though.

Same thing here. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's common. LOL Honestly i dont worry about it. MY car has 70k and i cant bitch. No serious tranny issues here! And no i'm not nice to it.
As long as this baby keeps falling in gear at 6500 or so i wont touch it.

guys...try this....cruise in 6th. put it in neutral and rev to over 3000 RPM. ...then it should slide right into 5th. it did with mine. is that a sign of bad synchros?

Hey 2MCHPWR,

I tried that this morning, and it did work (double clutching). Would slide right in to fifth after revving with the clutch pedal out in neutral.

It's not necessarily a sign of bad synchros, because my rebuilt tranny only has 100 miles on it (as of this morning), and has done this since mile 1. It's something else. One part I did not replace is the 5-6 slider gear, but I don't think it was in that bad of shape.

My tranny is going to come out in December, and I'm going to take it apart again and really look at what's going on with the 5-6 portion.

I had the exact same problem. I missed a 4-5 shift and grinded badly. after that it would not do the 6-5 shift. I continued to drive it for awhile by shifting 6-4-5. the 4-5 was always ok. After awile I started to shift 6-5 by letting off the gas, pushing in the clutch, pushing the shifter towards 5, and slowly letting the clutch out while pushing firmly towards 5. At a certain point it would snap into 5. After driving around like this for some time (I don't remember how long) it began to shift 6-5 normally again. Maybe a gear or synchro was stuck and eventually freed itself??? I don't know, but it is OK now.

The reason I redid my trans was from one bad 2-3 shift, it ground pretty bad and ever since then it wouldnt go 6-5 unless you brought up the RPM. Everything for 5th gear was replaced and its fine. I bled the clutch the other day ( I didnt bleed it when I swapped the stock clutch and master back in a couple weeks ago) and it will go into 5th fine now from any gear/any mph.

Well, I took the afternoon off, my trans is out. It's coming apart on Saturday, I'm going to do a rear section swappochangearoo, and move the working 5-6 parts from my 1st trans in to this one, and see what happens.

And putting in the Ram clutch. It arrived today.
