Default About the recent spec clutch upgrade. (spec clutch owners come in).

I heard the new spec stage 3 clutch was upgraded. Dont know when but something was improved.

What was it? and how can I tell if I got the better clutch? Is there a number or something I can track down?

Theres a sale promotion in the sponsor grp purchase board and I want to be able to ask if the sale is on the better upgraded clutches or the old ones but I dont know what to ask because I cant remember what was upgraded!

Help quick offer ends soon!!

Also are aluminum flywheels much better than billet flywheels? any bad side to them?

I believe what you are refering to is the new spec III X-pad which is a combination of the ceramic and carbon that gives better holding and streetability. If the clutches are coming directly from Spec which they usually do on GPs then you'll get one of these thats all SPec has anymore. Also the Flywheel is now billet steel instead of the stock replacement.... Reason I know all this is I have one I don't think the aluminum is a worthy upgrade unless the car is autocross, roadraced. On the street and the strip the billet steel will perform better and last longer IMHO.

Great clutch it chatters at first but it really does go away at around 300 miles of the breakin. It is a little off and on but you get used to it

they totally redesigned the pressure plate. i just pulled out a 2+ year old SPEC S3 and installed a new S3. very different PP's. the disc is also different. they now remove any extra metal between the friction pucks.

Thank you!

Would it be better if I were to buy new hydraulics/slave cylinder before the install or would it be a waste?

car is a 2002 WS6 with 24,000 miles

That would be a waste you already have the updated hydraulics and they will last for a LONG time. The only reason to upgrade would be to something like a Mcloed adj master cylinder and I don't think you need it with this clutch mine drives fine. Plus I had one in my LT1 it is a PITA to bleed it!
