I'm guessing your new clutch is grabbing near the top of the peddle travel? If it is the shim is not needed and the clutch is not fully engaged which causes it to slip.
Also if you changed the slave bearing then you probly left the washer/shim from the old bearing on the slave which put's another 1/8" washer in the mix.
