Broke bellhousing
Ok here is the story, was messing around with a viper and going into 3rd didnt go so well. Hit rev limiter and heard something sounding like a spring sound and then huge vibration. Looked under the car and bellhousing is broke on driver side.
Any idea what would have done this? I have a 1997 lt1, stroked 383, BMR Torque arm, subframe connectors, lca relocation brackets.
I need to get a bellhousing any idea how much they are?
Thanks for any info..

Where exactly did it break? Between the bellhousing and transmission, or did it go straight through? Stories like these make me want to get an aftermarket one. Last I saw a stock one go for was around $400 on ebay. For that price you might as well get a McLeod, or Quicktime and save your feet if it ever happens again...

Try and get us some pics, cause you CAN weld it back up and repair it if not too bad. But, 1st, pics.
2nd. Check the classified. A used LT T56 bell normally goes for $50-$150 on teh classifieds @ here. I sold one I had few months back: bellhousing, midplate, AND input shaft for like $185.
I then picked up a Mcleod SFI bell (normally @ $400) for $200 here in the classifieds.
Hope that helps

Now...what could have caused that?
Well, a bolt could have been overtightened, cracked it. A bolt could have backed out, caused tranny to flex some, crack. A defective/weakened part from teh factory that just took some years to fatigue enough to crack. And depending on where exactly it is, you COULD have run over something, cracked it (though you probaly would remember that) So, a few different possibilities

I welded my bellhousing after my McLeod single sent a spring through the side. It had held up for about 5-6 years now but beware the weld is not any where close to a bolt hole. So it did not affect any of the clamping componets
