O and remember to torque no more than 20 lb. ft for fill and drain plug.

Items Required:

-- Four quarts of Dextron III Automatic Transmission Fluid.
-- Fluid pump (make sure the threads are big enough for the bottle) or a suction gun would also work well
-- Oil drain pan
-- Set of Rhino ramps or equivalent
-- 7/8" wrench
-- 3/8" ratchet
-- Roll of teflon tape or RTV
-- Creeper to roll under car

Very well put!

why do you use automatic tranny oil in the manual tranny?
im a little confused about it,
should not be manual tranny oil?

another question, can be use 80w90 diferential oil for gears and standart trannys in my t56?

because today i check the level for oil in my t56 so i only have 2 liters for diferential 80w90 and i put it in the t56, 2liters¡¡¡¡¡¡

thats so much?

please i need some opinions

2 Liters is about half-full..a little over half to be exact..

The Dex III is thinner and gets into the tighter spots in the T56. Gear Oil wont.

Doesn't the tranny take 4 quarts? I was looking at some tranny fluid for my 6-speed and the bottles all say "automatic" What's up with that? Are we supposed to use that in the manual trannys? Where do you buy GM syncromesh?

Yes it takes 4 quarts 4.1 to be exact but 4 is all you need. You Get it from the Dealership thats where I Got mine at, but be warned to pay out the *** I paid 15.00 a quart but im in cali so it might depend on where you live. Just go with cheap old Dexron III (Not DexTron III),O'Reillys is what I use. All my buddys are running 10's and 9's with fully built T56 and use the cheap stuff and never had 1 problem.

Only reason I got Syncromesh was b/c its alittle thicker and im stationed in the desert wheres its 120 constantly. And someone already answered your other question its b/c how our trannys are you cant run thick stuff in there gm syncromesh is as thick as you wanna go.

I went with 4 quarts of Mobil 1 ATF.
Car isn't huge on HP, so....

Filled at the shifter myself as well.
If I recall, tranny calls for 3.9 quarts and filling at the shifter allows for that little extra fluid in there.

the reason i run the synchromesh is because of my big gear. the atf will foam up more as it has a detergent in it as a friction modification element.

ATF is "oil" it's like maybe a 5w 30 equivalent, don't take my word for it, but that's why you can use it in a manual transmission

I run Redline here, per recommendations from a former T56 sponsor on here...but the car is race only, so, best thing for the street? idk

do NOT run Royal Purple! Yeah rumors that it eats the epoxy on the syncros...well it happened to me in my GTO, and Tremec confirmed.

I rebuilt my T56 about a year ago, a few new gears, 3-4 steel shift fork, bronze pads, billet keys, new synchros, new slave, master all that stuff. That was about 12,000 miles ago and now it is starting to shift like ****, grinding on hard 1-2 shifts and it justs sounds bad. I tried bleeding it the other weekend and it is taking longer to go in gear, not good at all. I am currently running pennzoil synchromesh, I think I am going to change back to plan ole dex III. Its not hard to rebuild these as I did it myself but damn I hope I dont have to again.

Well im still torn between the two. I drive the car on nice summer evenings only, so no winter use, ever. Im still wondering if I should go with GM synchromesh or the Dex 3.......

I wonder if the fluid just breaks down and wears out around 12,000-15,000 miles. It seems no matter what fluid someone replaces it with it seems to get better. Could just be that you need fresh fluid quite often if you are racing or banging gears all the time All I know is my transmission sounds like **** now and I am going to get rid of the synchromesh this weekend.

i change my fluid every 4th oil change(2500-3kmi.) on my car so i guess that's why i never have an issue. i change the rear end gear oil once a year. the car sees less than 10k miles a year.

I use mobile 1 synthetic ATF. I ran Honda zf1 fluid before in my t56. No complaints about either one
