Angry Ever had problems with your black clutch peddle switch?

This morning I go to start the car and there was a 2 second delay when you turn the key and then the engine fires. This has never happend before. Then I go to work and the car will not start. I have power and the security system is not armed. I try again and it starts.

Anyone had problems with the small black clutch peddle switch under the dash? This is the only thing I would think it would be.

Have you ever had a problem with the car not starting because the car thinks the peddle is not pushed in? Your engine light comes on when it throws this code?

Is this switch adjustable?

Have the same issue every once in a while.

If I turn the key back to the off position after this happens, my security light stays on for approx 2 minutes.

After the light goes off, I can start the car fine.

I always assumed this was the VATS system being flakey.

So does mine - something like low voltage to clutch switch. No major issues with it though

Mine failed, and I replaced it (three times!) with an Autozone unit - each one lasted one to two starts; so, after getting a REAL GM part, no problems!

I snagged one from the Junk Yard out of a Saturn..one of the springs in it was broken, I just stretched it and I've had no issues.

They're only a couple bucks. I had a similar problem as you for a while. Thought it was that switch so I replaced it but it persisted. Turned out to be the starter SLOWLY going. Eventually left me stranded. Replaced the starter, no issues since then (that was over a year ago). It took me a WHILE to figure out what this problem was because all the symptoms pointed to an electrical issue and it was intermittent, but whacking the starter never worked like it usually does with other cars I've seen. Just something to keep in mind if your problem doesn't go away with swapping the switch.

I just bought the switch for $11.00 at Halkens. The car is a 98 with 61,000 miles and this is the origonal starter. If the switch does not work the starter is next. Is the starter hard to replace on these 4th generation cars?

It's not too difficult, but I guess that's all relative to your experience with working on cars.
