Preferred fluid for T56?

What is the current preferred fluid for the T56? In the past I believe it was either Synchromesh or M1 ATF.

I have used Red Line for awhile....works great for me and others i know who have used it.

dexron III is the owners manual recommended fluid.

i prefer dex3 over Pennzoil snychromesh though. havent tried anything else

Dex III is GM recommended. A lot of people use Mobil 1 ATF, some use Redline, Royal Purple, Pennzoil Synchromesh. You'll hear a lot of people say good and bad things about most of them depending on who you talk to. If you just want to be "safe", best option is probably to just go with Dex III per GM's recommendation.

You want the best? Or, the most commonly used.....It's all a matter of oppinion...2 qts mobil 1 and 2 qts Synergyn is as good as it gets....Synergyn is very very pricey...

I used RP sychromax and I could never get the trans back into 1st gear. It would just grind unless I came to a stop. I have since used RP ATF and it shifts like butter
