Longer 5th gear ratio

The diff ratio I have seen is "Shorter", I would contact companies that service all T-56's trans see if there is a comprimise. IMO like said, play with tire sizes. Also should help with the extra sidewall.

as far as it bolting up to the LS1, I'm sure there is some way to do it... but what came to my mind is the old T-56 produced by borg warner for the early LT1's. It had a very tall 5th and 6th gear ratio and slightly deeper 1-4th gears. If not the whole transmission, surely some company out there makes that gearset. IIRC it was 0.86 and 0.51, but it has been a very long time since I looked into it. I am positive of the 6th gear ratio, but am not on the 5th ratio.
