Default Jeep Transmission Problems.

Ok so I told a friend of mine I would help fix her Jeep. I haven't had time to look at it yet but its an M5 and she's having transmission trouble.

She told me she thought it was the clutch. Well ok I can help her replace that but before I drop the tranny in my driveway in the dead of winter I was going to try to figure out if it was something less severe.

She told me that it will shift in 4low and drive but not in 2wd/4high. As in, the car wont engage 1st gear if she's in 2wd but she it will if she's in 4low.

She said she took it to another friend who said it was a clutch and throwout bearing, does that sound right?? Why would the clutch engage fine in 4low but not 2wd?

Any suggestions would be great.

A faulty clutch would afect all drive ranges. This sounds more like a transfer case prob.

this is like a 2003 Jeep not sure exact year but around that year. ALso apparently it dosn't actually drive when she gets it into first but in 4low it will shift into first. I was thinking clutch master cylinder?? Or maybe it is just a clutch...
