What was I doing ? First one around 150 changing into 5th....then the slider bit exploded.
The other doing around 185mph and it ripped the teeth off 5th
1/2 mile and standing 1km
Simply gear sizes, torque etc etc the higher the overdrive ratio the weaker those gears get..
So the Magnum having bigger wider gears....will ultimately be stronger. The Magnum 5th at 0.8 instead of 0.74 ( although I could have had this one built with the 0.74/0.5 which I would honestly have preferred...but didnt want to spend the extra )...again being slightly shorter should also be stronger than the 0.74 too.
As the main top speed event I go to each year has now dropped to 1/2 mile, the 0.8 5th gear will probably serve me better anyway. I should still be able to hit 200mph at a little over 7000rpm, to which end I also changed to one of the shitty Holley intakes to try and improve breathing up top.
Although I doubt I'll ever see 200 in 1/2, but I'd expect to see 190+ if I can get the power to the ground ok.

Just an old UK Ford Granada ( not like the US car with same name. )
At around 55s on this video there is a small external clip....this is probably the run where it broke 5th. I'm going to same event on 14th April, so if it's dry I'll see if things have improved.
Or there are plenty of videos on youtube from various events and stuff I've uploaded.
I did 202mph in a standing mile back in 2010, but I've never been to an event over that distance since that. TBH I dont want to either.
If gearing etc allowed it I'm sure the car would be in the 210+ in a mile, but I've honestly no desire to try.
I used to have a carb intake/elbow...but got fed up with it. I changed to a BBK SSI after it seemed to perform well in that cathedral intake test. But nothing I've ever used seemed to want the engine to push beyond 7k.
The Holley looks nice....fitted poorly, quality just average. Port alignment like **** all. But lets face it, it's ******* cheap and made in China...so expectations were never high, although it did fall short of even that.
But although I've only had a couple of short drives ( it rains a lot here ) it does seem more willing to go beyond 7k, so that should help with both 1/4 trap and 1/2 mile 5th gear use.
For 5th as speeds increase, that aero brick wall gets bigger so if I can make good strong power in the 6, 6500, 7000rpm range it will always help. Although the car does get very light at high speed which then makes traction difficult to try and go faster.

I have a GTO T-56 that I am trying to build with a SSR shaft. I bought a C6 Z06 trans to be my donor. But it’s an 08 model. I have read a few articles that make me think I may have bought the wrong donor unit. Thank you in advance for the help.

You didn't buy the wrong one per say.
Most (myself included) opted for the NON Z06 for the more desirable ratio spread (2.66 1st gear)
I used one of my F body tail housings because I figured it would be much easier to have what I had on hand bored out rather than trying to source an SSR tailhousing. Which still requires machining on the shifter pad anyways.

SSR tail housing
Originally planned on doing a SSR conversion on my 2010 TR6060. The gears (5th & 6th) in the TR are splined on the main shaft T56 are run on bearings.
So to make a long story short I converted it to a Magnum.
I have a NOS SSR tail housing. PM me if you are still looking for one.
