Default Need Help

My buddies car will not go into 3rd or 4th gear at high rpms, anything over 5500. He never had this issue until he put the new engine set-up and his new spec 3 clutch in. If you shift below 5500 it will go right into 3rd and 4th gear. Stock tranny with 80k miles or so. Also when you do get it into 3rd after a second of it being in gear and still applying pressure to the shifter you will feel it move. Its pretty weird, it has a pro 5.0 shifter and the clutch was shimmed. He thought maybe the shim had something to do with it? I have a built t56 with a spec 3+ without the shim and have never had any issues. If you can help please do....

It almost sounds like it's not getting enough fluid, a common problem in fbodies. The stock MC doesn't push that much fluid, a Tick MC would probably make a HUGE difference.

One other thing is when you shift into 3rd it goes into gear but its like there is nothing there, then you can feel the shifter move like its finally going into gear or something. Never had this happen in my car before and ive had a few issues. If you know of anything or have anything like this happen to you please tell. Thanks again

I know what your saying about the mc, which it could be the problem but Ive never had any issues with mine and its a Newer stock 01 version with out the drill mod done to the line also. Hopefully somebody can give a little more insight.

An issue of fluid transfer would normally affect all gears, and the same could be said for an issue with the clutch. Because this is specific to 3rd and 4th there really isn't a way for this to be clutch or hydraulic in nature. That being said, it is much more likely that this is a problem within the transmission (Fork, selector, pin, etc...). Of course the only way to really assess the cause is to trear the transmission down.

your the pro but when I had issues with my tranny shifting at high rpms it was also only 3rd and 4th gear. My clutch would stick to the floor at high rpm shifts into 3rd gear. I would have to pump the living sh-t out of it to get it into gear. I went ahead and bought the 01 up slave and mc and the problem went away. Not saying that you were wrong in any way, just weird that it fixed my problem but I guess all situations are different.

The info I provide is relative to experience. Could your situation be different? Sure! As a general rule though if the issue affects a single gear, or even two gears, it isn't relative to a clutch or hydraulic issue. You made no mention of pumping the pedal and seeing any change in the response...perhaps you know something more about this than is posted. Does he see a change when pumping the pedal?

I vote for the Tick adjustable. Once I put my monter III in, I had my stock master with drill mod. High RPM shifting into 4th was always a bitch. 2nd was never a problem, 3rd would be tough once in a while. I put in a tick and all high rpm shifting problems went away. The stocker just doesnt do the job for heavier clutches.
