I put some teflon tape around the threads on the stick. (Like you would use for plumbing.) That allows me to fine-tune the position of the stick and crank it down tight. Just add or remove a little more tape to adjust.

wow.... some feed back on that one. i havent driven many sticks to compare this one to. the shifter itself seems firm enough to me. just the loose **** irritating me. i like the teflon idea, i will try that first.

can anyone explain to me why an aftermarket shifter is better than my stock hurst? it is a short throw after all, what makes another one any better? thanks.

Better feel and shorter throw, some even have adjustable stops. My MGW is super solid, it almost feels like it sucks the shifter into gear, very strong centering spring too.

If you have any friends with aftermarket shifters try one out, some are huge improvements.

I ordered the optional Hurst shifter when I ordered my car, $250. It was a POS compared to the Hurst Billit Plus I installed later. the optional one that came with my car had a rubber piece holding the stick together to help reduce vibration, it also reduced positive feel in the trans.

This has been pretty much the history of a factory installed Hurst shifter since forever. The aftermarket piece has ALWAYS been a better piece, just as the factory installed Hurst has always been a better piece than the design the auto company engineers came up with.

the aftermarket shift ***** I have came with thin plastic discs about 1/4" wide in various colors representing different thickness. you put one in the shift ball and screw down. try different ones until **** is centered.

anything can be used to do this (washers, etc)

FWIW the "factory" HURST shifter is marginally better than OEM and the Billet Pro is WAY better. and it is cheaper than the $250 the factory wanted for the "upgrade" of the HURST type they put on.

just putting the 2 side by side would answer your ?.....driving with the Pro Billet even more so.

is as easy as putting gas in.....7 or 8 bolts hold the console in and then about 8 for the shifter boot....at that point the shifter will be staring you in the face....4 bolts and she's off

its not the factory hurst shifter that is a POS, its the stick. its the same stick that is used on the non hurst shifters. i have driven a few cars with the factory hurst with both the stock stick and an aftermarket shortsitck, and let me tell you, the stick makes a world of difference. i personally like the WS6store short stick. however Lou's short stick angles the stick towards the driver better.

I am assuming becasue of the rubber bushing or whatever it is at stick base.

Just another suggestion; you can also cut out small pieces of cardboard and use that to index a shifter ****. The compressing of the cardboard allows for a really tight fit that won't back off so easily, as oppose to a harder material like metal or plastic washers.
