Thumbs down Im screwed

I've owned my 6 speed camaro for a little over 2 years and could probably count the number of times i've ground a gear on my hands until today. The first time shifting into 2nd gear today I ground the gear pretty bad. I figured it was a once in a blue moon type deal and didnt think much about it until I had to shift into 2nd gear again. This time worse than before. Long story short, now its about 50/50 whether it just grinds, or grinds and lets me get into 2nd.

sounds like its time for a rebuild...tick is about 1300 for there stage one. or find some trans shop to do the labor...around 500...and get your own parts so around 8-900 for a cheap rebuild. get the trans out urself and that cuts a big cost...

Chances are that you rounded off the engagement teeth on 2nd and the 1-2 sleeve. So you will need a rebuild. It is very common to have a problem inside your T56 for a long time before it shows up. I see it all the time. I do the Stage 2 build for $680 & shipping is approx $100 each way. Check the website in my sig. Also feel free to do a search for my username and you will find lots of good feedback!

Sometimes fluid temp and type of fluid could help that but it sounds it has gone beyond that point.

As for rebuild price, thats not too bad IMO, Especially if you do not have the tools.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The transmission has 71k on it and my car has zero modifications. It's a real bummer. So around $880ish said and done TDP?

That sounds like a very fair price in my opinion.

That's a fantastic price. I paid $1280 locally to have mine rebuilt, and I'm questioning its integrity now. I needed a new input shaft and a 5th/6th gear assembly though. If you've royally screwed up something in your trans and the rebuilder says that "this" is also screwed up then the price can keep climbing as they're replacing broken or worn out stuff.

Yup, that is correct. Here is a link directly to the T56 page on my website explaining exactly what is included. http://www.texasdrivetrainperformance.com/t56.html
Of course it can cost more if additional parts are needed, but with only 71k miles, its probably not too bad.
