Default park in gear ?

when I first drove a manual, I was alway park in gear and pull e brake, but then I was thinking that kind put too much pressure on first gear so I only using ebrake, then after 2 year, my e brake snap, my question is if I park in first gear will dint it put alot pressure on first gear and wore out ? so park in first gear and using e brake sound normal ? thank you

I usually park it, pull up the ebrake, let the car roll until it hits the ebrake, then put it in gear to keep the stress off the gears.

I always left my car in 2nd gear when I parked it when it was a 6spd and I do the same in my truck. I dont think it would cause any wear issues doing so.

I always park mine in gear with the e-brake on - I'd rather have two methods of keeping the car from moving just in case. I've been known to do suspension work on my car that requires me to release the e-brake, and there have been times where I didn't pull the handle back up before putting it on the ground.

I can't think of how it would really wear anything...

That what I alway been doing now, pull ebrake then put in clutch and put in gear, cause some time I cant get in gear without push the clutch in.

Default put in gear

I never use the e-brake. car has 80000 all original no noise or anything. truck has 380000+ on original tranny and rear never any problems or noise. only use of e-brake is on really steep drives or hills. but who am i to tell what to do, its all up to you what your comfortable with.

There is far more stress on the gears while driving then sitting still, I don't see what could possibly wear out

whats an e-brake...lol. mine has never worked. I always leave it in 1rst gear. Had my tranny rebuilt to a stage 2 about 3 1/2 years ago. Just went back in to freshen everything up last month and the only signs of wear were on 2nd gear... so I would have to say that leaving it in 1rst gear when you park does absolutely no harm to the tranny.

How could it? Taking off from a dead stop in any fashion (hard launch and driving like a granny) will put more stress on the transmission than just leaving it in gear while its parked.

Ive ALWAYS parked in gear with the e-brake in every manual trans vehicle ive driven. The one time my Dad didnt in his old Jeep wrangler, the e-brake popped off, and it rolled across the street, into a building.. no serious damage done to either, but im not taking the chance.

He said put an air ride suspension on it so you can lower it all the way to the ground when you park it - it would be resting on the frame at that point, and there would be no way that it could move. His buddy with a 1994 Toyota did this.
