Default rebuild my t56

i currently lost third gear. it grinds when i try to engage it so i just skip it for the time being. i dont have any power adding mods done to my car except for custom exhaust. planning to do heads and cam either during the winter or next summer. but i want to get this rebuilt soon. on a scale of 1-10 what difficulty is rebuilding a t56 with the sticky how to? im good with my hands and tools as i do hvac. also what is a good kit to buy for my setup (want to hit the 400-450hp mark as a realistic goal someday). i know tick will do it for around 2k for a bullet proof trans. but trying to keep the price somewhat reasonable also. thanks for any input

You probably need a 3-4 shift fork, new syncro ring and if you want to upgrade the 3-4 shift keys, you can install some billet keys.

Yeah that's what I figured broke. But I have 100k miles on it. And I bought it 5k miles ago so figured the rings are probably getting worn and beat up. So was thinking of just rebuilding it changing everything. What kit is good for up too 500 hp to be safe

Here is a list of the items that I replace on my Stage 2 build (I charge $680 parts and labor). Keep in mind every builder is different, so my list probably varies from others. I'm telling you that it has worked great and I've done well over 1000 T56 rebuilds in the last 6 years.

(2) 1-2 friction rings
(2) 1-2 outer rings
(2) 3-4 rings
(2) 5-6 rings
(1) Reverse ring

(4) 5-6-R fork pads (small ones)
(2) 1-2 fork pads (big ones)

(1) Steel 3-4 shift fork (pads included)
(3) Billet 3-4 keys

(2) 1-2 synchro springs
(2) 3-4 synchro springs
(4) 5-6-R synchro springs

(1) Input seal (front)
(1) Output seal (rear)

You will also need a 3-4 synchro assembly, and possibly a new 3rd gear depending on how it looks. So figure in another couple hundred bucks. I could put this kit together for you and make you a deal on it. I haven't gotten it up on my website yet, but give me a call if you'd like more info. Thanks
