How do masters go bad...
I never knew master cylinders can go bad. It definitely went bad in my car, it seems like the clutch engages randomly on the pedal, if not now at the top of the pedal. Is it from the extra pressure from a heavy duty after market clutch? My slave was replaced when the clutch was, I would say a little less than 20k miles ago.

A master usually fails by the first seal on the piston failing. It may not tear in two but the seal can become worn and start to bypass around the seal and you will loose pressure when it does this. If it starts to bypass both seals in the master it can leak inside the car.

Well if you are talking about the stock plactic master cylinder. There is a umbrella seal that pushes fluid when you push the pedal down. Where the line comes in for fluid there is a normally drilling flash from drilling the hole for fluild to poass thur, and over time the seal tear, or wears from use cause fluid to bypass the umbrella seal causing the pedal

Its a car what doesn't go bad after we beat on them every day. But yea be shure it's your master cyl. First and not your slave. I replaced my slave also not too long ago and then was driving my car and something popped and i thought it was the master at first then as i looked into it more i figuered out it was the slave that i had just replaced. When i pulled the trany the slave was in 4 pieces.
