Stick really stiff after first shift

Stick really stiff after first shift Hello everyone,
I let my friend use my car went to drive it and the stick was really stiff, so stiff it would stick side to side without returning to center. So I figured that it was the shifter that was messed up, well when the car sits over night when you first start it up its smooth as butter then after I shift 2 or 3 times it starts to get really firm untill I really have to muscle it into gear. the clutch works fine, shifts seem to be fine other then it being so stiff. I'm supposed to be driving to florida in a few days so any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks.
