Cannot get out of gear at WOT.

Default Cannot get out of gear at WOT.

Hey guys,

I have a problem and I am not sure if it is the clutch or trans. When I am going WOT into high rpm's, I try to shift and it will not get out of gear to go to the next one. I have to wait for the rpm's to drop down to get it to go. It works great at 1/4 and 1/2 even 3/4 throttle. Even bringing it up to 5500 at half throttle and then shifting is fine. Its just when going WOT that it won't let me out of the gear when its time to shift. I have heard that dual friction clutches have this problem so that might be a possibility? Any thoughts?


Car specs are:

tick master
centerforce dual friction
4.11's in the rear.

motor has cheatr v.3 cam and stock ls6 heads with full boltons and makes 370/370 if that matters.

Does the clutch pedal feel like its sucking to the floor when this happens?

Pretty sure that's a no. I will do a run when I go to lunch in a moment and check. Never felt it before though. If it is it may be slight.

Just put your foot on the pedal lightly and see if you feel it drop. It might not go all the way to the floor, it might only drop an inch or so. If it does, usually thats the pressure plate not being able to handle the centrifugal force the engine is producing at WOT.

Pedal doesnt drop, but moves slightly and I mean very little. Any other ideas?

Still sounds like the pressure plate on the clutch to me. My Mustang street car does it really bad in 3rd gear if I run it up to the near the rpm limiters. I know for a fact its the pressure plate thats too weak for the power the car is making. If I let off the throttle, it will come right out of gear after it drops a few hundred rpms.

Yup that is exact same thing that is happening to me. Looks like I'm doing my clutch, slave and add a speed bleeder this time around.

Mine wouldn't shift into gear at high rpms due to my fork working its way off the pivot ball and being unable to put enough pressure on the TOB at high rpms to loosen the clutch up.

EDIT: This was on my Cobra, but it's the same design in theory.

Actually the LSX style T56 has a slave cylinder that pushes the throw out bearing. There is no pivot ball or shift fork.
