Default How long will it last outside??

Hey guys, I'm putting my car back together it's been a few years that it has been in jack stands and now it's time. My t56 has 120,XXX miles and was working fine when I removed it a few years back, I had left it covered in our carport since then. My ? is, will there be anything needed to be done to make sure it's still in working condition I really don't know about opening up a std. transmission, you think there would be any damage to it??? what should I be worried about...it shifts though all the gears ok.
Thanks

If you left it full of fluid, it should be ok, but depending on the humidity it may have surface rust on the exposed parts and some internal parts. (Did you leave a tailshaft plug or old slip-yoke in the tail?)

Make sure it has fluid, rotate the input/output once or twice a day for a week prior to installing it, and drive it easy for the first few hundred miles..

That's the thing I didn't leave it with any fluid, the spline in the front does have surface rust and the tranny itself is dirty, I do plan on cleaning the housing with with some mineral spirits. So you think leaving it with fluid and rotating should help it some? I would like to have it checked and have it rebuild to stock form if the $$$ is right..

If you have the money why not get it checked?? It shouldn't cost more than $100. That way you won't have any doubts. Maybe they'll even clean the gears if you pay them..
