Straight cut gearset and faceplating discussion and info thread
#22
Yea that would be a bad *** setup for sure!! The perk of faceplating the T56 in a heavily drag raced car that is still a street car, is 5th and 6th gear are still synchronized. That way you can downshift to 5th without rev matching the gears to pass other cars on the highway.

$2250 is the gears themselves from G-force. The cluster will need new bearings installed and propperly shimmed into the transmission. If you do a standard synchronized G-force gearset it will be $2395 for one of our Level 5 T56 and $2250 for the G-force gearset.

This thread has been dormant for a while. Here is a little info on the latest faceplated AND straight cut gear trans we have done. The only way to discribe this one is, BAD ***!
The pictures below are of what is quite possibly on of the baddest TR6060s on the planet right now! It is a faceplated, lightweight, straight cut gearset built specifically for one of out highend customers for their 2010 Camaro race car. We are looking forward to see how well it performs on sunday!

More info on the straight cut gearset please. PPG showed a straight cut gear, dog-ring T56 at PRI back in 2005 or 2006. Is that from them or is this something that G-Force is working on. Either way, its about time! What are the ratios? Do 5th and 6th stay synchronized?

I will let you know once I get solid info. This setup is a one off custom job. The ratios are similar to the 2010/2011 Camaro trans. 5th and 6th retain stock helical gears and they are synchronized.

I did a Mazda RX7 unit years ago with some custom straight cut gears in it. That damn was so loud you could hear it from the starting line way past the 1/8 mile mark. They do hold up very well though compared to a helical cut gear of the same size and material. It should take a beating and then some!

Straight cut gear are loud, but when the transmission is in direct drive (4th gear on a T56), they do quiet down a lot.

That RX7 has a G-Force T5 and you can hear that its much quieter in 4th than in any other gear.

4th gear will get a lot quieter since there is basically no load on the trans in 4th gear. The input shaft and output are directly locked together and there is no pressure on the gears inside the unit.
