Question Can you use a 2001 Fbody T56 with 2009 LS3 Crank/Pilot Bearing

I am installing a built LS3 into my 2001 Camaro SS M6, my car only has 17,000 miles on it.

The LS3 short block I bought only had 2,400 miles on it, I was there when the engine was being pulled. The C6 that it came out of was getting a built 427.

Will my 2001 Fbody T56 work with the 2009 LS3 Crank/Pilot bearing? I thought that I might need a new pilot bearing but the one in the crank is just about new, so why not use it and save some time and money.

It looks like the LS3 pilot bearing sits flush and the LS1 pilot bearing is recessed in some.

Check out my pics and let me know what you think.

Thanks....

Bill

Hi Bill,

You will need to pull the LS3 style bearing out and install a new LS1 style bearing that fits in the inner step of the crankshaft just like your old LS1 did.

I was thinking that... My new clutch kit included a new LS1 pilot bearing so that is one less thing I have to buy.

What is the best/easiest way to get the LS3 pilot bearing out?

The best way to pull it is to use a blind hole puller. You can usually rent them at parts stores.
