Default MGW Shifter Review

Hey guys, for any of you that are on the fence about which shifter to get, I just installed the MGW shifter in my 02 T/A. I have to say, it was a huge improvement over the factory Hurst. I would recommend this to anyone. A friend of mine has the Pro 5.0, and I like it. But I believe this one takes the cake. Easy to install. I did it in the rain, and my butt never left the driver seat lol, and it was done in about 45 minutes. The shifts are shorter and more precise, and there is absolutely no play when its in gear, oh and it is actually quieter than the factory shifter.

Plus, they did a great job on packing. It was completely wrapped up with bubble wrap / newspaper, and comes with everything you need to put it in, right down to the RTV. Thumbs up from me.

Awesome.

I got it mine the other day in the mail. I ordered the gripper shift **** too. Black / Satin 6spd design on ****.

The quality looks fantastic. I can't wait to install it.

I have had Hurst, pro 5.0 and the MGW is the best and made less noise. Toad gives it two thumbs up.

So even the MGW is noisy? My stock shifter was perfectly quiet, but after installing a B&M Ripper, it rattles thru the ****. Replaced the factory ****, but even a new one rattles. Guess it is just a resonance frequency coming up the shaft that causes it because the **** is solid with nothing inside to make that rattling/vibrating sound.

Anyway, I had planned to try a MGW since the rattling/vibrating is slowly driving me crazy, but am disappointed to hear it does it as well?

Where are you reading this? Everyone in this thread has only commented on how quiet the MGW is, and that's been my experience as well coming from a B&M Ripper to the MGW that is in there now.

Less is encouraging, but none is best.

toadzq8, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being quietest) where would you rank the MGW noise-wise compared to the other two?

The only complaint I have is my shifter boot sits too close to the ball. I like it sitting down around the bottom of the shaft. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I saw a couple of weeks ago where someone was custom making shift boots for our cars. Maybe he could make one a little shorter? Any ideas?

@cpo - It's really quiet. No rattles. I dont think you'll be disappointed if you go with one. I ended up going with one of these *****.. mine is the black / white one.

Yes, you can get a custom shift boot that is shorter from Redline Goods (a sponsor on here)...that's what I ended up doing.

I have heard the MGW is the best shifter out there but I bought a 5.0 & I have no complaints.

@meentzSS02 - When you ordered your shift boot how much of a drop did you tell them to make it. There's nowhere on the MGW website that says specifically how much farther down the shifter sits vs. the stock hurst.

I saw that, did you actually get that ****? lol..or did you order one without that emblem.

I have been debating for awhile about the MGW shifter, I currently have the Pro 5.0 with Lou's Short Stick, I like it but after all the good reviews I've read about the MGW I might just give that a try to see how good it really is compared to the Pro 5.0 since most people on here have said they like it better than the 5.0

Its the black / white striped ball w/out any emblems. I just liked it better than the gripper or any of the other ***** on the page... so i went with it. Might eventually change it out to a hurst ball shifter or an anodized pheonix or something

For those wondering about the gripper - it's money well spent imho. It's quality work, and feels fantastic. I opted for the satin instead of chrome 6-speed design. I am *very* happy with the quality and fit of the ****. That just sounds funny.
