Default lq4 flywheel fitment problems

i have a 2004 lq4 out of a gmc yukon that i am putting into a 1987 grand prix. I am running a 4 speed as that is what my budget will allow. My problem is i bought a flywheel for a 1999 camaro thinking that they were pretty much all the same but when i installed the flywheel i noticed that the starter teeth were engaged with the ring gear already. Is there a starter out there with a shorter nose on it? or is there a flywheel out there with the ring gear on the clutch side of the flywheel? any help would be appreciated.

I don't know, but I'd check the starter pinion gear to see if it can be pushed back in the starter (starter is bad) or compare / test fit a Camaro starter.
