Tranny blanket!

will a univesal blaklet fit my T-56? the one from summit?
Also, what is the weight on it? i know they are heavy.

I'm running a bellhousing blanket from http://www.exoticmuscle.com - look at F-body / Safety. You can see it in this pic here on my trans:

As for the universal one, I dunno... Mine's not super-heavy, but it's not light either. A bit of a pain to install correctly (tight / snug), but it's not too bad once you get used to it.

Yup, they're not cheap, but they really do fit OK, and the material feels like it'll stop shrapnel. I'd rather have a full bellhousing, but until there's one that fits, I'll run the blanket. I hope to never test its effectiveness, though.

Is it able to be installed with the tranny in the car, or do I need to drop it down some to get it in there?

You will need to pull the tranny crossmember and drop the rear of the trans down to access the upper bellhousing bolts. There are tabs that go behind the bellhousing bolts. These tabs contain slots that the straps cinch down with - they hold the blanket in place firmly. The only tab I had to deform significantly was on the passenger's side, where my header tube was almost in the way.

In fact, it's easier to install if you have the tranny removed completely (just the bellhousing). But it can be done with the tranny in there (mine was installed the first time with the trans in place).
