Default Some diagnostic questions slave/shim

I pulled out my T56 today because of problems shifting into 3rd, 4th and reverse, and just the other day, my slave started puking fluid (at least I think it was the slave)

I bought the complete setup used with a lakewood belhousing, blockplate and Spec 3+ clutch. When I installed it, I replaced the slave for good measure.

Knowing what I do now, I would have measured for a shim at that time, because I'm sure with the blockplate it probably needed one

Is it possible that not having a shim killed my slave cylinder?

How do I verify the slave is shot now that it's sitting on the bench, and what could have caused it to go bad, if it wasn't due to the lack of a shim?

If it needed a shim and the seal was pushed too far it will leak. pull the slave apart and see if you can see any clues as to why it was leaking.

How do you pull it apart? I pulled the sping, throwout bearing and the plastic sliding sleeve type thing off, but can't really see what else to take apart.

Maybe it's broken in my hands, and I'm just not seeing it.

At any rate, that's good to know that an improperly shimmed slave can make it leak. I just don't want to do this again in 8 months

Improper shimming can certainly lead to a slave that over-extends. I have a diagram that might help with your assessment of the need for a shim. Send me your email and I will get this over to you ASAP. Thanks!
