Some diagnostic questions slave/shim

I pulled out my T56 today because of problems shifting into 3rd, 4th and reverse, and just the other day, my slave started puking fluid (at least I think it was the slave)
I bought the complete setup used with a lakewood belhousing, blockplate and Spec 3+ clutch. When I installed it, I replaced the slave for good measure.
Knowing what I do now, I would have measured for a shim at that time, because I'm sure with the blockplate it probably needed one![Rolleyes](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/rolleyes.gif)
Is it possible that not having a shim killed my slave cylinder?
How do I verify the slave is shot now that it's sitting on the bench, and what could have caused it to go bad, if it wasn't due to the lack of a shim?

Maybe it's broken in my hands, and I'm just not seeing it.
At any rate, that's good to know that an improperly shimmed slave can make it leak. I just don't want to do this again in 8 months

Improper shimming can certainly lead to a slave that over-extends. I have a diagram that might help with your assessment of the need for a shim. Send me your email and I will get this over to you ASAP. Thanks!
