Default Clutch problems

Just bought a 2000 trans am with T56 tranny. I have been fixing alot of problems this car has and im kinda at a stand still til i fix the clutch issue..

here the problem.
If the car is running. the shifter does not want to go into any gear easily at all. I can pull up on the clutch pedal with my foot and it will come up slightly i can push it again and sometimes it will go into gear. .. also once in gear the clutch engages damn near 1/8th inch off the floor board... now if i turn the car off i can put it into any gear with no problem. ... Please help .
i have done alot of searching on here and the only thing i have found that may be the issue is the slave cylinder needs a shim behind it.

now the pedal only has about 4 inches of travel with pressure and does not snap all the way back up .. any info would be greatly appreciated.

I just had the same problem this week. I replaced the master cylinder and that fixed it.

ok i went ahead and got a vacuum pump to bleed the system... i got all the old dirty fluid out of the resevoir and got some air bubbles out as well and refilled with good fluid... the pedal feels slightly better but still has the same symptons.. is there a way to flush the whole system with using the vacuum pump or do i have to get to the bleeder valve on the slave? is there any easy way to get to the bleeder valve as well?

You need to flush it by using the bleeder valve on the slave.

Ok guys ... I replaced the masteecylinder with a advance auto one and I went ahead and did the drill mod. The car shifts great and has no problems going into gear any more.....except for now at high rpm it doesn't want to shift smoothly I have to double clutch it to get it to hit the next gear. .. any ideas? Could I need to just bleed it better?

Does the high-RPM shifting issue affect all gears? Where does the clutch engage relative to pedal travel?

well it definitly affects 2nd and 3rd i havent pulled all the way through 3rd to find out if it will do it through 4th. the clutch engages as it should normally now. a few inches off the floor board . I tried to bleed it again today used the MITYVAC method and didnt get any additional air bubbles at all. . i if i hesitate a bit and let the RPM drop slightly it will click in but otherwise it will not just go from one gear to the other

If you hadn't referenced the drill mod I would suggest it because that is axactly what this sounds like. it is as though the fluid transfer is being slowed. This could also happen if the Master was bleeding by the seals and as a result I would suggest replacing the Master.

I do not know. The guy I got it from said the clutch was recently replaced. From what I can see through the bleeder whole the pressure plate is bright orange

Is your pedal return spring in place/properly functioning? Are you certain that you have all the air out of the system? I would try using a mighty-vac to bleed the system to insure this. I assume that the fluid in the reservoir is clean and clear. Can you confirm this?

All the fluid is brand new synthetic fluids and yes the pedal returns as it should .. also I have already used the mity vac to bleed there is no air in the system.also shifting into the gear it feels like the shifter hesitates and then will click in. Definitly not a smooth transition

Check these two things for me. If you sit with the pedal depressed for 30 second or more does the car begin to pull forward despite your foot being on the pedal? Also, if you put it in gear and rev the motor does the car pull forward/lurch? It still sounds like you are seeing a release issue which is commonly associated with a poorly functioning hydraulic system. Of course, it is also possible that there is something going on with the clutch too.
