Default Trans won't let me into reverse?!

I just got my car, and I've noticed that from a complete stop and the clutch all the way to the floor (as it should be) i can't go into reverse. Yet other times, it's fine and glides right in. It's like it goes in 1/2 - 1 click and his a wall & when I let the clutch out it's in neutral.

As far as whats been done to the car, everything appears stock, except for skip shift isn't active. No check engine light at all, the 1-4 light doesn't flash on when shifting below 2K, and I can shift into any gear under 2K. So I'm not sure If it has an eliminator installed or not. I though you still get a CEL with an eliminator.

So back to the reverse problem, every once and a while, it goes in reverse fine. All other times, I'm locked out. Its a pain in the butt when I'm trying to get out of a parking space, If I'm lucky, I drift it backwards in neutral or keep trying for 5 minutes and it might go in. What could be wrong?

If the issue doesn't affect any other gear I would say this could be relative to either the reverse lock-out, shifter, or internal trans issue. Of course, there is no way to know without looking into each of these to assess the actual cause.

I would start with the reverse lockout solenoid. Maybe theres a problem with the wires, bad ground perhaps.

Mine is a little tough to get in R sometimes, but if I put it in another gear like 1st or 2nd before, it goes in R no problem.

I had the same issue for a while. My issue was the engine sensor fuse went out, replaced it and my reverse worked like a charm after that. Could also be the reverse lockout solenoid being bad.

I had the issue, ended up being a locked up reverse-lockout solenoid. Bought one used on here for $20 or something.

Definitely start looking with the lockout solenoid. That's my best guess.
