Hurst shifter
Anyone have any suggestions on how to stop a shift from rattling? I have it as tight as it will go and it rattles constantly if I'm not holding it....

I'm positive it's the shift ****. I don't think my car came with the hurst option, I bought the ****. It's tightened the **** as far as it will go, I don't think it'll go another turn. I was wondering about maybe putting something on the threads? Idk its really annoying....

Is your **** attached with a set screw, or did it screw on the end of the post like a nut? (If its the latter, it shouldn't rattle unless something is broken inside - in that case you should take it completely off, shake it, and see if it will rattle off the stick.)

I've taken the shifter off the stick and drove it and it doesn't rattle at all, so it has to be the ****. Anyone know of something I can do? washers? Put something on the threads?

It might be where the threaded bolt inside the **** is glued in or w/e. You might try threadlocker if you don't see yourself having to pull the **** any time soon. I pull mine every time I wash the car to clean my shift boot. I'd just get a new ****, but that's me.
Mine had a backing bolt that fit on the threads below the ****, and I kept it tight against the ****, but the **** rattled around the threaded bolt.

This is the shifter with the "H" embossed in the top, right?
Did you also shake it off the stick to see if there is something loose inside?
I'd next take the stick of the shifter and then check the play in the **** vs. the stick. It should be solid. If it moves then that would indicate the thread is loose from the ****.

Ive had that happend to me on a few occasions, once was a few nickles and dimes stuck right by the shifter and the other was the **** itself. Pull the **** off and turn the car on and see if it rattles still. Atleast you can rule that out if it still does.

I wrapped Teflon pipe tape around the threads of my stick, but not for vibration. It helps me tighten things up just a tiny bit so that when I crank it down all the way, the **** is pointed straight. (Without the tape on my stick, the **** would point at 3:00.)
So, if you are sure its looseness on the threads - I'd suggest the Teflon tape and have had great results with it.
